Lawn Tennis is primarily an outdoor sport, and constructing a standard tennis court requires attention to several key factors. These include:
(a) Accurate court dimensions
(b) Correct court orientation
(c) Proper slope and drainage system
(d) Suitable base preparation and construction materials
(e) Type and speed of the playing surface
(f) General requirements such as lighting, fencing, nets, posts, windscreens, maintenance, and resurfacing needs

Singles Court: The court must be a rectangle measuring 78 feet (23.77 m) in length and 27 feet (8.23 m) in width.
Doubles Court: The width increases to 36 feet (10.97 m), adding 4.5 feet (1.37 m) on each side. The portions of the singles sidelines between the two service lines are known as the service sidelines. Except for these additions, the layout is similar to the singles court. The sections between the baseline and the service line may be excluded if preferred.
Run-off Areas: A minimum of 12 feet beyond each sideline and 21 feet beyond each baseline is required for safe play.
Total Area: The overall court area, including space up to the fencing, should be 120 ft × 60 ft.
The Net: The court is divided at the center by a net hung from a cord or metal cable not exceeding ⅓ inch (0.8 cm) in diameter. The cable is attached to posts no more than 6 inches (15 cm) in diameter or square shape.
Net Posts: The posts must not exceed 1 inch (2.5 cm) above the top of the net cord. Their centers should be placed 3 feet (0.914 m) outside the court on both sides.
Net Construction: The net must fully cover the space between the posts with mesh tight enough to stop the ball from passing through.
Net Height: The height at the center should be 3 feet (0.914 m), held down by a white strap no wider than 2 inches (5 cm).
